PRE-OP INSTRUCTIONS


  1. Transportation: Since you will be medicated for your surgery, it will be necessary for a responsible adult to drive you home and assist you for the first 24 hours after your surgery2
  2. Who will be staying with you?
  3. It is not necessary that they remain in the office or hospital during your procedure unless the patient is a minor. Then the parent or guardian must remain on the premises during the procedure.
  4. Our Nurse will call you the day before your procedure to go over any last minute questions.
  5. At that time you will be given the exact time to be here for your procedure. To help you plan in advance, anticipate you will need to be at our office anywhere between 7am & 11am.
  6. Cold Sores: If you have ever had a cold sore, let us know. We may need to pre-medicate you to prevent an outbreak.
  7. You are having intravenous sedation or general anesthesia with an anesthetist: DO NOT EAT OR DRINK anything after Midnight the night before surgery.
  8. You may take your regularly prescribed medication that you would normally take in the morning with a small sip of water. Exception is made if you have DIABETES. Consult Dr. Mardirossian.
  9. Take the ARNICA MONTANA (we provide for bruising, as directed. ARNICA – 5 pellets, 3 times per day, place under your tongue and let dissolve. Start 2 days before surgery and continue until finished. How to open container: Pull tab first. Turn the tube upside down (clear cap down) and twist cap 5 times to dispense 5 pellets. Carefully remove the clear cap with the pellets. Use the cap to place pellets under your tongue.
  10. Do not wear make-up, face creams, hairspray or gel, body lotion, powders, perfumes. Do not wear deodorant if you are having upper body liposuction.
  11. Do not wear any jewelry or bring any valuables with you.
  12. Wear warm comfortable clothing that does not go over your head. Warm up suits that zipper up the front and pull on pants are recommended. Bring warm socks and slip on low heeled shoes.
  13. Bring all the medications you normally take plus the prescriptions we ordered with you the morning of your surgery.
  14. Prescription drugs will be called into your pharmacy several days before your procedure. Please bring them into the office on the day of the surgery. Please be sure to buy the following supplies: frozen peas, ziplock sandwich bags, lubricating eye drops (example: artificial tears) and Bacitracin ointment (CVS).

MINOR PROCEDURE PREOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS


  1. If you are having Oral Sedation you may need someone to drive you home after the procedure depending on oral sedative. (Please refer to other instructions below)
  1. Local and Oral Sedation: You may have a light breakfast for a morning surgery. If your procedure is in the afternoon, you may also have a light lunch.
  1. Do not wear any make-up, creams, lotions, jewelry or bring valuables with you.

MEDICATIONS TO AVOID BEFORE AND AFTER SURGERY


If you are taking any medications on this list, they should be discontinued 14 -21 days prior to surgery and only TYLENOL should be taken for the pain. All other medications that you are currently taking must be specifically cleared by your doctor prior to surgery. It is absolutely necessary that all of your current medications be specifically cleared by your doctor and nursing staff. Common medications that are taken are Aspirin and Aspirin Products, Anti-Inflammatory drugs such as Advil, Aleve, Nuprin, Alka-Seltzer, Pepto-Bismol and various herbs. Also stop taking diet medications. You may take multivitamins.
