3 Popular Plastic Surgery Procedures

If you are contemplating whether or not you should have a plastic surgery procedure done, it is important to weigh out the pros and cons of why the procedure would be a good decision for you.

People get plastic surgery for many different reasons, including a boost in their self-confidence or to help with a medical issue. Whatever the reason, once you have decided that plastic surgery is for you, the next step is deciding the kind of surgery.

Here are three common and popular plastic surgery procedures.

Liposuction & Body ContouringLiposuction and Body Contouring

Lipoplasty or liposculpture, also known as liposuction, is an extremely common and popular plastic surgery option.

This particular option was developed in the 1980’s. For many people, this is the best option when you are trying to lose weight by dieting and exercising, but these areas of fat are simply not responding to either. Many of these trouble areas can include the thighs, or “saddle bags”, or the midsection, also known as “love handles”.

In this procedure, a qualified plastic surgeon will use a piece of equipment that acts as a vacuum and sucks the fat out of your body through a small incision.

Body contouring is also liposuction, but it can be combined with another procedure, such as a face lift or tummy tuck. Another option, done by some qualified professionals, is a tumescent liposuction, in which a fluid is injected before the fat is removed, which helps prevent blood loss and minimize discomfort.

Recovery time for this kind of procedure varies, depending on the size of the fat area. A few days of rest should be expected after a procedure. Side effects, such as bruising and swelling, may last up to several weeks.

RhinoplastyRhinoplasty

Another common plastic surgery option is rhinoplasty, or more popularly known as a ‘nose job’.

This option is fairly common in celebrities, but many people have their noses reshaped for many different reasons. Some people who have issues breathing undergo rhinoplasty surgery, while others would like a smaller nose to complement their facial structure.

A plastic surgeon will make small, unnoticeable incisions at the base of your nose. Scarring is minimal and the bone or cartilage is adjusted or skin is removed to alter the shape of your nose.

Recovery time after rhinoplasty can take up to several weeks. While some changes may be immediate, it can take anywhere from six to twelve months for permanent changes to take effect. Some of the side effects include bruising around the eyes, swelling, minor soreness and possible nosebleeds for the first day or two after surgery.

Breast AugmentationBreast Augmentation

Increasing the size of your breasts is another popular option and can be a great way to help boost your confidence and self-esteem. Before making a quick decision, it is important to discuss with a qualified professional what size you would like to move to and what shape would naturally match your body.

During breast augmentation surgery, your plastic surgeon will make an incision around your areola and saline-filled bags are inserted between your chest muscles and breast tissue or chest wall.

Many patients are able to get out of their beds after two days of rest, and bandages can usually come off shortly after the procedure is finished. While there may be some soreness, the only requirement after dressings are removed is to wear a sports bra for an extended amount of time.
