Hairline Lowering Surgery : Scalp Advancement
A hairline can say a lot about a person’s gender and age. A scalp advancement procedure will give you a well-balanced and youthful looking hairline. A hairline advancement procedure is often sought by patients who are considering facial feminization surgery (FFS). Using scalp advancement, patients can advance their hairlines, feminize their faces, and even take years off their appearance.
How Scalp Advancement Procedure Works
A fine incision is made at your hairline from temple to temple in order to allow new hair to grow through the incision. The incision also mimics your existing hairline and allows the surgeon to advance the hairline where it has receded.
The surgeon will advance the hairline and adjust the eyebrows to a natural, more youthful position. The overall finished look of a scalp advancement is subtle but will immediately help you recognize how much more youthful your face looks.
What is the Recovery Time for a Scalp Advancement Procedure?
After the surgery, you will have a soft dressing applied to the forehead. Depending on the procedure, you may or may not spend a night in the hospital for observation. The dressing will be removed the day after the surgery and an ace bandage will be applied, which should remain in place for up to seven days.
While pain is mild, there may be some swelling in the first twenty-four to forty-eight hours post-surgery. The discomfort can be easily managed with prescribed pain medications or over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications. You will need to be cautious about washing and brushing the scalp line following your procedure. Towel dry the affected area and brush hair backwards with care. If you are going to blow-dry your hair, be sure to use the coolest setting.
What are the Common Complications Associated with this Procedure?
Infection, while rare, can still occur. If you follow cleaning and after-care instructions, as well as take your prescribed antibiotics, you should be able to avoid infection. Swelling and bruising around the eyes is very common and should resolve itself within a few days and up to two weeks.
You will be instantly surprised at how effective scalp advancement can be – and how much more youthful you look once the procedure is complete. Due to Dr. Mardirossian’s extensive experience and skills, patients see little to no scarring.
